Milovick identified as TRU administrator cleared in workplace harassment investigation

TRU VP cleared in probe

A Thompson Rivers University vice-president has been identified as the administrator cleared following a year-long investigation into allegations of misconduct.

Matt Milovick, the university’s vice-president of finance and administration, identified himself as the person cleared by investigators.

Milovick and Larry Phillips, TRU’s former associate vice-president in charge of human resources, were the subjects of a lengthy independent investigation after a number of anonymous allegations were made with the university early in 2021.

TRU this week released a heavily redacted copy of the investigators’ report, which cleared Milovick and found 10 complaints against Phillips were substantiated.

On Tuesday, top TRU brass held a press conference at which they said they could not identify which administrator had been cleared and which had been implicated.

That changed after Milovick went public on Wednesday. TRU issued a statement reaffirming its support for Milovick on Thursday.

“Matt is an important member of our senior executive team,” TRU President Brett Fairbairn said in a statement.

“His contributions to the capital development and operational progress of TRU over the years are well-known and appreciated by all who work and study here, as well as by members of the broader regional community.”

Phillips left his job at TRU under murky circumstances late in 2021.

Of the 10 allegations investigators deemed substantiated against Phillips, seven were for sexual harassment, one was for age-related harassment, one was for personal harassment and one was for derogatory comments toward First Nations people.
