Mountie finds drugs following North Kamloops traffic stop: police

An RCMP officer found a significant amount of drugs during a traffic stop in North Kamloops early Thursday morning, after the Mountie first noticed a piece of metal dragging under the vehicle's rear bumper.

Just before 3 a.m., the officer noticed the vehicle dragging a piece of metal near Selkik Avenue and 12th Street, and pulled the driver over.

In a press release, Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the driver was “unco-operative” when the officer asked for his licence and he “refused to follow instructions."

The Mountie arrested the driver for obstruction and learned he was prohibited from driving.

A search of the vehicle turned up about 18.7 grams of meth, 9.3 grams of fentanyl, 14.9 grams of crack, and 8.8 grams of “unidentified pills,” according to Evelyn.

“Cash and paraphernalia associated to drug trafficking was also seized,” she said.

Police impounded the vehicle and the driver was released pending further investigation.
