Impaired driver steals car

An impaired and prohibited driver was arrested Wednesday after a vehicle was stolen from outside a business in the downtown core, police say.

According to Mounties, officers were called to a report of a stolen vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. on Seventh Avenue. A person said they left the car running while going inside a business and returned to find it being driven away.

“Officers conducted patrols and located the vehicle travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway,” RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

“Further investigation revealed the suspect was also driving while prohibited and impaired.”

Evelyn said a woman was arrested and issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. She was released with a court date pending the outcome of driving while prohibited and possession of stolen property investigations.

Anyone with information about the incident can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
