Victim clings to life

UPDATE: 10 a.m.

A 26-year-old Vernon man is in critical condition after he was found stumbling on Pandosy Street while bleeding from stab wounds.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says RCMP officers worked quickly to perform potentially life-saving measures on the stabbing victim late Tuesday night.

Just before 11 p.m., RCMP received a request to help paramedics responding to a report of a man who had been stabbed and was bleeding out.

Police said a good Samaritan found the victim near Sutherland Avenue and provided first aid, says O’Donaghey.

“RCMP officers immediately arrived on scene prior to the arrival of emergency medical personnel. Officers quickly secured a tourniquet on one of the victim’s limbs, which effectively stopped the victim’s bleeding.”

Pictures of the scene reveal a bloody path of left footprints, which could mean he was stabbed in the left leg.

The victim was nearly unconsciousness and not fully co-operative with investigators. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

“Initial findings at the scene indicate that the alleged serious assault took place inside an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Pandosy Street,” says O’Donaghey.

“It appears as though the victim exited a residence searching for help.”

He says the investigation is ongoing and has been taken over by the Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section.

ORIGINAL

A heavy police presence was reported by residents of Pandosy Street in Kelowna overnight Tuesday.

Several RCMP cruisers converged on the neighbourhood around Pandosy and Sutherland Avenue about 11 p.m.

Residents of a condo block report the area was taped off and police were searching the area with a dog. A pool of blood and bloody footprints were seen on the sidewalk.

One resident tells Castanet that ambulance paramedics took a stretcher from the scene.

"I'm not sure what happened, they won't tell us anything, but the street was blocked off in both directions. They put yellow police tape from the bus chair all the way over to the trees," said the resident.

No details were immediately available from police, but Castanet will update the story as information becomes available.
