Gun pulled on bus drivers

UPDATE 2:40 p.m: 

Kelowna RCMP say they were called Monday at about 10:15 a.m. after a gun was pulled on striking transit workers.

Officers flooded the area while they searched for the suspect. Thanks to a detailed description supplied by the victims, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

“Investigators have recovered a pellet gun they believe was used in the commission of the offence,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Thankfully, no one was physically injured during the incident and the public is no longer at risk.”

A 29-year-old Kelowna man of no fixed address remains in police custody and faces potential charges.

Kelowna RCMP say they have taken a suspect into custody in connection with a frightening incident Monday morning on the picket lines in front of Orchard Park Shopping Mall.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1722 president Scott Lovell says a gun was pulled on striking transit workers at about 10:20 a.m.

He says a man approached on a bicycle, threatening to slash everyone on the picket lines.

“He went past the line about 50 feet where there was two female picketers, placed his bike down and a couple of our male picketers went over.”

“When the two males approached, some words were exchanged and the individual pulled a gun out of his backpack and pointed it in the face of the picketers.” Lovell said

He says the members couldn’t really tell if the gun was real or not, but it was enough to terrify them.

The impacted picketers are now receiving peer counseling, and Lovell said that he asked RCMP Victim Services to follow up with the individuals.

Kelowna RCMP say they will be releasing further details shortly.
