Four Kelowna people have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 23-year-old Kelowna man on Canada Day.
Police tell Castanet on Saturday night, that three men and one woman have now been formally charged in relation to the death of Esa Carriere.
Kelowna RCMP responded to a violent altercation on Water Street at 10:50 p.m. on Canada Day just after the fireworks finished.
Police officers responded to the scene at Queensway bus loop where they found Carriere on the ground in “grave condition” and suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.
Carriere had recently moved to Kelowna from Mississauga, Ont. and was working as a daytime cook at Kelly O’Bryan’s restaurant.
He died in hospital shortly after the attack.
“This was a complex and resource intensive homicide investigation, which spanned multiple jurisdictions,” states Insp. Laura Livingstone, Investigative Services Officer at the Kelowna Regional Detachment.
Nathan Truant, 26, and Noah Vaten, 20, each Kelowna residents along with an 18-year-old Kelowna man and woman have now been formally charged with manslaughter.
“All four accused were taken into police custody during simultaneous arrests across Kelowna and outside the province Friday,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
Nathan Truant and the 18-year-old Kelowna man were remanded into police custody over the weekend and are expected to appear in Court on Monday.
Noah Vaten has also been remanded into custody in order to be transported back to Kelowna for his first Court appearance.
The 18-year-old woman has been released on bail and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 14.
Carriere moved to Kelowna on June 17, just two weeks before he was killed. Police told Castanet back in July that the incident was believed to be “isolated."
