Toddler dies after hit by car

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.

RCMP are investigating the death of a toddler after the child was run over by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

Just after 2:45 p.m. RCMP frontline officers responded to a call from the BC Emergency Health Services "regarding a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian" in the 500 block of McCurdy Road.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene according to onlookers. Police have cordoned off the area for processing. 

Investigators are working to identify potential witnesses and canvassing the area for video surveillance in an effort to determine what caused the collision. 

“This is a tragic incident, and our condolences are with the family of the deceased,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP.  

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with us.”

No further information is being released at this time. 

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s sudden death.

Police have closed off a portion of McCurdy Road in Rutland just past Hollywood Rd. N for what is believed to be a car crash. 

Six police officers are on scene but are not able to confirm details or the severity of the incident.
