Annual Okanagan Volunteer Fair goes online amid COVID-19

Volunteer fair goes virtual

The annual Okanagan Volunteer Fair, which normally takes place at the Parkinson Recreation Centre, will be held online this year due to COVID-19.

The 23rd fair, presented by KCR Community Resources will be held virtually. Normally the event hosts 70 organizations with up to 1,000 interested volunteers however in accordance with provincial health guidelines, an in-person event is not possible.

This year's event features the Facebook page 'Get Involved Central Okanagan' where organizations and future volunteers can find information, photos and videos about the event and upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer managers and supervisors will also have the ability to share information and opportunities through video interviews.

“The online event will provide the opportunity to showcase even more great local non-profit organizations as we are no longer limited by physical space,” says project coordinator with KCR Community Resources Stephanie Moore. “I am enjoying interviewing each organization and learning about the variety of volunteer roles, some of which have been quite surprising."

While volunteering may look a little different during the pandemic, non-profit organizations still need support to deliver essential services to the community.

“The connections that I made through volunteering when I first moved to Kelowna have helped me in my career path over the last 23 years,” says Moore.
