The Central Okanagan Public School Board has confirmed their first case of coronavirus since the winter holiday break on Wednesday evening.
A 'community member' of the Rutland Senior Secondary School has tested positive for COVID-19.
Interior Health says the exposure took place on Jan. 4, the first-day back-to-school from the two-week break.
"They are self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams," says SD23 in a news release.
SD23 is following protocols established for these circumstances:
- The health authority is performing contact tracing;
- The health authority will determine if anyone in the school community was in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 while they were potentially infectious;
- The health authority will determine if anyone in the school community is a close contact that is required to self-isolate.
The school board states safety and the well-being of students, families, and staff remains their highest priority.
