Police investigating crash that knocked out power to part of Kelowna on Sunday

Extensive damage in crash

Kelowna RCMP says they are investigating a crash Sunday night that left thousands of Kelowna residents without power.

At approximately 7 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a single-vehicle crash near 3284 Benvoulin Road.

Police say a Cadillac collided with a power pole, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and pole.

Following the crash, FortisBC reported 3,200 people had lost power.

The power was restored around 1 a.m.

Police say the driver had already left with paramedics prior to the RCMP's arrival.

The road was closed to traffic until the pole could be repaired.
