Local bus service may be interrupted due to a potential driver shortage

Bus schedule interruptions

Regular transit riders may want to make alternate arrangements for the foreseeable future.

In a note to school parents, BC Transit officials warn city buses may not run on a regular schedule beginning Tuesday due to a potential shortage of city bus drivers.

In early October, BC Transit joined the province and other corporations by making it mandatory for all employees, including bus drivers, to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19.

The date to show proof of vaccination was today.

The company did not say at the time whether non-vaccinated employees would be terminated or sent home without pay.

"We do apologize for any disturbance that this may cause for families," the email stated.

School buses are not impacted.

"Please make appropriate adjustments and check the transit app daily to see which routes have been affected."
