Police swarm home, leave

UPDATE: 12:20 p.m.

The Kelowna RCMP have confirmed no criminal offence was committed along Harvey Avenue Thursday morning, after officers swarmed a home near Ethel Street.

"Kelowna RCMP responded to a residence this morning to a call that appeared to be serious in nature," said Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Tammy Lobb. "When officers arrived on the scene, they learned the information that had been provided was not accurate and no criminal offence had been committed."

"As it was not a police matter, officers cleared from the call," Lobb added.

ORIGINAL: 9:40 a.m.

Police temporarily closed Kelowna's Harvey Avenue near Ethel Street Thursday morning, before officers swarmed a nearby home. But police have now left the area.

Just after 9 a.m., police closed the westbound lanes of Harvey Avenue between Ethel and Richter streets, but the closure was only in place for less than 10 minutes.

Shortly after the temporary closure, about eight RCMP cruisers swarmed a nearby home at 819 Harvey Avenue. The house that appeared to be the target of the RCMP's attention is directly beside a house that went up in flames in a suspicious fire last November.

It's not clear what caused police to attend the scene, but officers left the home within 10 minutes. It's not clear if any arrests were made.

Castanet has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for further information on the incident.
