Mechanical issues on the runway disrupts air travel at YLW

Air traffic disrupted

Air traffic was disrupted at Kelowna International Airport Wednesday morning after a small, non-commercial aircraft ran into mechanical trouble on the runway.

YLW spokesperson Cassie Brannagan tells Castanet a non-commercial twin-engine Piper had to be towed off the runway Wednesday just before 11:30 a.m.

"The runway at Kelowna international airport was closed due to mechanical issues of an aircraft on the runway. The runway remained closed for about 40 minutes while the aircraft was removed, and we reopened at 11:25," says Brannagan.

Brannagan says the incident resulted in approximately 4 flight delays, "there were no planes that were diverted as a result. Just a few delays of aircraft landing and taking off," Brannagan says air service at the airport is back to normal now.
