Stober Group CEO, former SunRype head Dave McAnerney dies

Stober CEO dies suddenly

Longtime pillar of the Kelowna business community Dave McAnerney has died.

The CEO of the Stober Group, the developer behind the Landmark District, died suddenly on Wednesday while mountain biking with friends, one of his favourite activities.

He was 59.

“Dave cherished family above all,” says a statement by family to media.

“He was a family man through and through and cherished his wife Anne and his girls, Michelle, and Renee. It was beautiful to see the four of them together laughing and loving life.”

McAnerney had been the chief executive of the Stober Group for the past two years and previously served as chief operating officer.

He was also the president and CEO of SunRype for more than seven years between 2010 and 2017 and previously held senior roles at Labatt and Inbev.

The family’s statement calls McAnerney an “accomplished achiever” starting right from kindergarten.

“High school valedictorian, chemical engineer with honours, #1 in global brew master exams, and a World Junior curling champ,” the family said.

“Despite these incredible accomplishments, they were not what made the man. It was his love and compassion for his family, co-workers, friends, and life.”

“Dave’s spirit will live on in his wife Anne, his daughters Michelle and Renee, his sister Chris, brothers Marshall and Bruce and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. They are all grateful to have had him for the 59 years that they did.”

A celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced.
