Kelowna Hells Angels' prospect killed in single-vehicle collision

HA prospect killed in crash

A former Kelowna Hells Angels' prospect was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Prince George earlier this month.

Jason Townsend, 45, died on Nov. 17, 2022, after a crash near Prince George seven days earlier.

Townsend had two domestic assault charges against him dropped in the spring of 2021, on the same day his trial was scheduled to begin. The assaults were alleged to have occurred near Kelowna's Yates Road in the early morning hours of Aug. 7, 2020.

According to an online fundraiser created by family and friends, Townsend was injured in the crash on Nov. 10, and remained in hospital until he succumbed to his injuries a week later.

"We were so lucky to get to see his big smile, contagious laugh and to hear him joke around as always," fundraiser organizer Beanne Krause wrote. "Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for him to stay and he succumbed to his injuries.

"No one was expecting this outcome so as you can imagine everyone is in complete shock at this time."

The Vancouver Sun's Kim Bolan reported Townsend had become a Kelowna Hells Angels' prospect in the fall of 2019 after his former club, Prince George's Renegades motorcycle club, had disbanded. Becoming a prospect is the final stage before members can become full-patch members of the Hells Angels'.

Back in 2014, Townsend was sentenced to three years in jail for a 2013 assault on two men and a woman outside a Prince George nightclub, but in 2015, the BC Court of Appeals took a year off his sentence.
