Slow down on the roads

Why is it people think it’s OK to drive faster than the speed limits? I live along a very busy main arterial route in Summerland, and it never ceases to amaze me to see people driving the 50 km/hr route as though it’s a four lane highway. The setting is a rural farm road with tractors, no shoulder, very poor visibility, cyclists, dog walkers, etc.

Complicating matters, there are several hidden driveways, and a couple side streets. I regularly walk and cycle along this road and I routinely see the the same vehicles driving at what I would guess, as twice the speed limit. These same people always have a stupid look on their faces as they lock up the brakes to avoid an accident, but the next day they do the same thing? Seriously! I have actually witnessed people trying to pass on the blind hills without slowing down.

This road is also on the Bottleneck Drive route, meaning drunk drivers by late afternoon. What is wrong with people?  Are people really that self-centred? Does it only matter if one of their family members is killed?
