I am writing regarding the millions of dollars spent on bicycle lanes in this city. Whoopee ding! More than half the time I see the bicycles on the sidewalk with a bike lane next to them.
Now I would like to address the seniors with mobility issues and the garbage we have to put up with; broken and heaving sidewalks, hedges and weeds encroaching on the sidewalks, the difficulty with intersections, the lack of planning regarding pedestrian crossings and lack of snow clearing in the winter. One winter I saw a senior trying to get her walker across a large pile of snow piled at an intersection.
How about the mayor and council members spending a day with me on a mobility scooter, won’t even make them use a walker.
As a handicapped person myself, there are times it is extremely frustrating travelling on my scooter in this city. ICBC says we must travel on the sidewalk and I have actually been yelled at and berated by a bicyclist who was on the sidewalk with the bike lane beside him. ICBC quote “Motorized wheelchairs can be used on sidewalks or roads, following the same rules as pedestrians.” Mobility scooters are classified by ICBC as motorized wheelchairs.
