Streaming isn't cheap

Re: Stream more concerts

While I share Ms. Tepsa's desire for more streaming concerts, there are a few things I wanted to point out about to explain why this isn't more prevalent.

The letter seems to insinuate that streaming concerts are somehow being prevented from occurring by the BC Government, which is not the case.  That is, it wasn't the case up until the latest restrictions around indoor gatherings came into effect, but let's ignore that for the sake of the rest of my letter.

During the past few months, I have watched many livestream concerts by smaller artists, as well as comedy shows, and while it is fun, there are technological limitations that make the experience less than perfect (specifically audio/video quality issues).  There are other expenses and factors to take into account, such as internet connection upgrades, the computer hardware and software required to put the whole thing together, and the knowledge on how to make it work.

Plus, bands or artists thrive on the feeling they get when playing to fans in-person at a venue, something you just can't replicate when playing in an empty room to a webcam.

All that being said, there are still streaming concerts happening for the artists who can afford it - check out Billboard.com, where they have a regularly updated list of upcoming streaming concerts.
