I trust the scientists

Re: We must be saved

I would like to submit this short letter in response to the very lengthy letter from Rick Daytona. It does say on the Castanet page to keep the letters to 300 words or less yet they published your 1,183 word essay and I’m not sure why. I fear they may not publish my 246 word one.

As far as people “accessing their own risk”, well we have seen where that has taken us. I’m sorry but I do not trust the judgment of my fellow neighbours as much as I do scientists, doctors and other highly educated people who have spent their lives studying viruses. You may “own your own risks” but what gives you the right to put others in jeopardy because of it? Just in case you forgot to mention it in your letter you do know our national debt also includes hospital expenses which I’m sure you will be taking advantage of if by chance you end up contracting COVID. I’m not sure if you have read the news concerning the devastation occurring in India right now and if so do you believe this is part of the conspiracy? Bankrupt Bonnie believers…seriously. What a slap in the face it is to people who have lost their loved ones to have to read or hear opinions from people such as you.

By the way Rick, you did not state what your academic achievements are? Unfortunately a lot of people believe they are smarter than they actually are.

Elizabeth Kozub, Vernon

Editors note: The 300-word limit has long never been enforced, so that note has now been removed from the letters page. Letters may still be trimmed for brevity and readability.
