Saddened by tree cutting

It saddens me greatly to see healthy trees being cut down and destroyed in Kelowna for the new Pandosy Park at the end of Cedar Avenue.

They call the trees invasive, even though the trees have been there for a long time, provide shade, oxygen, shelter for animals, etc. (they had to scare the birds away from the trees in order to cut them down).

It hurts me whenever a healthy tree is cut down just for consumer convenience.

The City of Kelowna's plan is to replant trees to replace these healthy, mature trees. These new trees will be puny for a long time before they mature.

I love all the trees in Kelowna, and it breaks my heart to see healthy, mature trees cut down for really no good reason.

I moved away from a flat, treeless place with no lakes around to be in Kelowna for it's beauty, trees and lakes.

Deforestation still continues and is destroying the world.

We in Kelowna don't want to live in a desert-like place. We need to cherish each one of our healthy trees and all species.

We are a species also, and we are the ones being invasive of the trees' and wildlife's natural environment.

What are we leaving behind for future generations?

Beverly Ryder
