Indigenous teaching for all

Re. Vernon School District and Okanagan Indian Band local education agreement in effect through July 2025 (Castanet, June 23)

I applaud the Vernon School District (SD22) and Okanagam Indian Band (OKIB) for recognizing the benefit there will be to our entire community by working together to educate all students about local culture.

It is important to remember Indigenous history and culture is Canadian history and culture. It is a part of all of our heritage, regardless of ancestry.

I don't know the details of the agreement but I'm grateful to hear that all students will receive ongoing education in the language and culture of local Syilx people.
