Re. Should Ottawa provide disaster compensation for homes flooded in flood plains? (Castanet, Dec.3)
About a decade ago, some insurance companies would not issue insurance for damage due to certain kinds of natural phenomena in Florida.
The state government then set up an insurance system for those residents not able to buy insurance.
Residents who live on flood plains should buy insurance to protect themselves should a flood occur.
If that is not available, either the federal government or the provincial government should set up a system to provide insurance for those events.
I checked and the insurance problem still exists in Florida. https://www.insurance.com/home-and-renters-insurance/home-insurers-leaving-florida
