Re. Tim Lyons letter Bike lane fee won’t work (Castanet Dec. 5)
Mr Lyons seems to have misunderstood my letter.
(What I’m calling for is a) licence fee for bikes (in Penticton), like they have in other parts of Canada. The licence must be displayed on the bike just like a car licence.
If a rider does not have one, then it is a fine just like in other cities in Canada. This will bring in the revenue to repair, remove snow or maintain the bike lanes.
People are still riding on sidewalks as well and they should be fined, which will bring in more revenue to the city.
There is nothing like a speeding ticket to get you to slow down when driving. Why no enforcement for bike riders who do not obey the rules?
