Reason for difference now

Re. Beverly Ryder's letters Seniors have it pretty good (Castanet, March 29)

Beverly Ryder lays out a thoughtful letter about the differences between what seniors faced years ago versus what young people face today. It was intelligent and well articulated.

I would ask (the writer) to continue with her thought process.

Why are interest rates and inflation rates so high right now? Why are staples like gasoline and groceries so expensive? Why are affordable homes so difficult to find, either to rent or to buy? Why are people working as hard as ever, not wasting their income, and still not able to make ends meet? Why are hospitals filled to overflowing with wait times for checkups and surgery getting longer and longer?

I agree we shouldn't criticize one generation or another, and we shouldn't generalize. It's certainly not helpful to blame or credit one generation or another for the circumstances in which they find themselves.

We don't need more division in this country. Rather, I would like to hear (the writer’s) opinion as the causes of the current situation and, more importantly, what can be done about it.
