Pumpkin puts van in lake

A 33-year-old West Kelowna man is lucky to have escaped unscathed after his van ended up in Okanagan Lake Saturday morning.

RCMP confirm the incident in which an object, believed to have been a pumpkin, was hurled at the southbound van, smashing the driver's side window.

Police says the sudden shock created by the impact, accompanied by flying glass and unknown debris caused the man to lose control, ending up in the lake. The driver was apparently uninjured and managed to escape the vehicle before it was fully submerged in water.

This collision could have easily resulted in serious injury or death, and police are asking for public assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible.

After a pumpkin smashed through the driver's side window, a van veered into Okanagan Lake Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct 25. 

The van was travelling on Highway 97 near Antlers Beach in Peachland when someone apparently threw a pumpkin at the vehicle. 

The pumpkin smashed through the driver's side window causing the driver to veer into Okanagan Lake. 

The condition of the driver or other occupants is unknown. 

Neither the RCMP nor Peachland Fire Department could immediately be reached for comment or to confirm the details. 

Video taken by the dive team who helped pull the van from the lake shows pieces of pumpkin still inside the vehicle.
