Search scaled back

The search for a Winnipeg woman missing for more than a week in the woods above Peachland is winding down.

Police say the ground search, involving provincial and volunteer search and rescue members, is being scaled back.

"West Kelowna RCMP advise that search and rescue has made extensive and exhaustive patrols in the area of Headwaters and Peachland Lake Road. Provincial and volunteer SAR will be scaled back today," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Duncan.

"RCMP police service dogs will be engaged for the next few days. RCMP Air Services will also be in the area searching."

Kara Stoyanowski, 24, left a campsite in the area of Headwater and Peachland Lakes last Tuesday evening.

Police said she was camping with a male companion, but would not say what caused her to suddenly wander off.

Stoyanowski is described as:

  • Caucasian female
  • Five feet eight inches tall
  • 120 pounds
  • Short pink hair
  • Wearing shirt, shorts and flip flops

West Kelowna RCMP are requesting the public's assistance with any tips or information.

If you see or have any information on the whereabouts of Stoyanowski, call West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
