Breast Cancer Walkers

The Summerland Folk Festival is pleased to announce that support is being offered to a dynamic duo from Summerland who will be participating in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.

Laura Etchison-Bone and Lesley Rowe, both local residents, are part of a foursome called “Girls Just Want to Have Boobs”. This group of four women is participating in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer Walk which takes place on August 18-20, 2006 in Vancouver. The walk is 60 km long, with all proceeds from the walk going to the BC Cancer Foundation. Etchison-Bone is walking for a family member while Rowe is walking for her aunt, a breast cancer survivor.

In order to participate in the fundraiser each woman must raise $2000. Both Etchison-Bone and Rowe have set personal goals of raising $3500 each. The Summerland Folk Festival is proud to support this duo in their efforts with proceeds from the refreshment garden going towards their fundraising efforts. The refreshment garden will not only feature wine from local wineries, as well as beverages from the Cannery Brewing Company, but it will also feature this dynamic group of ladies called “Girls Just Want to Have Boobs", as they will be volunteering in the refreshment gardens in order to fundraise for this worthwhile cause.

The Summerland Folk Festival features such performers as the legendary Ian Tyson, Connie Kaldor, Christine Fellows and Kinship among many other talented artists. Tickets for the 2006 Summerland Folk Festival can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.ca or charge by phone at 250.770.1470 and at the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development & Tourism (250.494.2686). Prices range from $30 for an advance purchase adult 2 day pass to free admission for children under the age of 12 years of age. Individual tickets for just Friday or Saturday are also available.
