A $23 million upgrade could be in store for the Penticton sewage treatment plant.
On Monday, city council voted unanimously to adopt recommendations of the Stage 2 liquid waste management plan from Stantec Consulting.
Part of the plan calls for $19.4 million upgrade to the plant itself as well as $3.6 million of improvements to the treated effluent outfall.
Treated outfall will continue to be discharged into the Okanagan River Channel, but the current tertiary treatment system has recently been given a clean bill of health from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
The final recommendations of the Stantec report are due in September and will include cost estimates and implementation schedules for Ministry of Environment approval.
