Slow Weekend Crime Wise

It may have been busy at the beaches this weekend, but it was quiet at the RCMP office in Penticton.

Corporal Rick Dellebuur says he is surprised how slow the weekend was, crime wise.

“We saw considerably fewer instances like drinking in public or noise complaints from the night clubs, which you might expect on a nice summer weekend, especially considering how many people were in town this weekend,” says Dellebuur.

He says part of the reason is likely the type of people who have been flocking to Penticton.

“We are seeing a lot more families coming to town, and families are less likely to cause problems,” says Dellebuur.

He says it is possible that the hot weather has played a part in the decline.

“Where we have really noticed a difference is with the rowdiness at the beaches at night, we have noticed a decline,” says Dellebuur.
