This is the 23rd year of the Skaha Rotary Sandcastle Competition, one of Penticton’s most anticipated summer events as part of the Penticton Peach Festival. Popular with both visitors and local residents, the Sandcastle Competition draws up to thirty teams and fills Skaha Beach with thousands of spectators.
This year we are expanding the entry categories to:
Family Team (Adults & Children) – prize $200
Youth Team (ages 13 to 16) – prize $200
Kids Teams (ages 8-12) – prize $100
Business Challenge Teams - prize $300 (donated to the charity of their choice)
People’s Choice award – prize: bragging rights
For team makeup see the entry form (www.prentictonrotarysandcastle.com ).
Competition winners will have their sculpture immortalized on our web site.
The People’s Choice award is a Skaha Rotary fund raiser. Money raised this year will go towards the support of the Sakh’ingomso Children’s Ministry in East London, South Africa which is a volunteer organization helping street kids get off the street and children who have lost their family homes destroyed by HIV/AIDS.
To vote in the People’s Choice, Skaha Rotary will sell five votes for a loonie during the event.
The ticket for each vote can be dropped in the can located at the Rotary registration tent during the event. After time up is called the votes will be counted and the winner announced at the award ceremony.
Entertainment during the evening will be provided by Kyle Anderson and the Amazing Rubber Band.
Interior Health will be on hand to give their advice about dealing with the sunny environment of Penticton.
There are a limited number of plots. To ensure that you are not disappointed pre-registration is recommended.
This may be done at RE/MAX penticton realty, Apple Financial Services, Kampman Oliver Keene, Sun 97.1FM and the Penticton Western News. Please make cheques payable to Skaha Rotary.
