Peach Festival Drink & Dessert Contest Results...
Penticton’s annual Peach Festival “Peach Drink & Dessert Contest” was held on Tuesday evening 8th August. Many of the city’s top restaurants put real peaches into this year’s Peach Fest by creating delicious drinks and desserts using the fuzzy fruit. The event was organized by the BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association (BCRFA) and judged by a panel of twelve guest judges.
Voodoo’s Restaurant won Best Peach Drink with their creation, “Slow Seductive Peach”, a decadent blend of peaches that had been marinated in Fireball and Peach Schnapps for five days, cinnamon, cream, white and dark chocolate, served in a giant brandy glass rimmed with peach sugar, topped with whipped cream, cinnamon stick and a peach slice.
The Front Street Bar & Grill was second in the drink category with newcomers Piggy’s BBQ third.
The Front Street Bar and Grill won Best Peach Dessert with their creation “Frozen In Time”, an exotic ensemble of peaches and other seasonal fruits submerged and ‘frozen’ in a glass of hand made champagne infused peach gelatin topped with cream and, of course, a slice of peach.
The Black Iron Grill was second in the dessert category and the 2005 winner, Salty’s Beach House, was third.
The competition was closely contested with mouth watering entries from The Pasta Factory, Granny Bogners and Villa Rosa also competing.
All restaurants’ drinks & desserts have been created specially for this year’s Peach Festival and are only available at participating locations until August 22.
The prize of over $2000 of media advertising with Giant FM, Sun FM & E-Z Rock, The Penticton Herald and Penticton Western News goes to the winning restaurants.
The contest is the only one of its kind in North America. BCRFA spokesperson Duane Jordan said “Fresh peaches are a delicious ingredient to use and Penticton’s chefs really stepped up to the plate this year with some fabulous creations. Peaches are now on Peach Festival menus and we encourage people to go and judge for themselves at all the participating restaurants throughout the city!”
