The first event held at the newly-renovated Okanagan Park was a hit with residents.
The opening ceremonies of the 59th Annual Peach Festival drew a crowd of about 500 to the park by the Lakeside Casino on Wednesday evening.
Peach Fest president John Singleton says this event makes him proud to be a Pentictonite.
“This is the type of thing that makes Penticton such a great place to call home,” says Singleton.
Festival attendant Mark Gellers says he was surprised by one thing.
“I think it is odd that there was no one actually selling peaches at Peach Fest, you can buy pizza, coffee, frozen bananas, but not peaches,” says Gellers.
The opening ceremonies were hosted by Dennis Walker and Andrea Macpherson of Giant FM, who will also emcee the parade on Saturday morning.
