High Rise Made Smaller

It's getting smaller.

The proposed Waterside Resort will go to council for a second reading and another public hearing after the developer came back with plans to make it smaller.

Over 300 people packed the Trade and Convention Centre on November 23 to voice their opinions on the controversial high-rise hotel proposed for south Skaha Lake.

Mayor Jake Kimberley says the resort has been reduced to 10 storeys.

"On the South side it has been reduced from 11 floors to 10 floors, on the North side it has been brought down to nine floors and the centre block has been brought down to 10 floors as well. The whole thing has been reduced,"
says Kimberley.

He says the developer made the changes to accommodate the concerns of residents.

"Many people felt the existing proposal was simply too high, so the developer worked very hard to reduce the height," says Kimberley.

The next public meeting dealing with the project will be held on January 8 at the Trade and Convention Centre starting at 7 p.m.
