Police have released more details dealing with a bizarre incident in the South Okanagan Tuesday.
A 29-year-old Oliver man is facing several charges, including kidnapping, after taking a woman and her two grandchildren for a wild ride.
The events began to unfold shortly before 1 p.m., when a police officer spotted a stolen pick-up truck on Highway 97 south of Oliver.
The driver rolled the truck while trying to evade police. Several motorists stopped to help, including a woman with her mother and two children in the vehicle.
The suspect stole the woman's car with mother and children still inside and police in pursuit. The vehicle became stuck in an orchard near Black Sage Road where the man fled on foot.
The suspect managed to hitch another ride, but was taken into custody at a police roadblock. He's due in court Wednesday. Police say he had recently been released from prison and is well known to RCMP.
