S.S. Okanagan Turns 100

There will be lots of candles on this old gal’s birthday cake.

The S.S. Okanagan turns 100 today. Launched in 1907, she travelled between Okanagan Landing and Penticton six days a week until 1932.

General manager of the S.S. Sicamous Restoration Society, Alexa La Madrid, says while no big party is planned, she wants people to know of the historical milestone.

“In 1994 the society purchased the stern saloon of the S.S. Okanagan. A couple of history-minded houndogs, Randy Manuel and David Stocks, discovered this little gem being used as a summer guest house/artist's studio in Okanagan Landing. We bought it for $30,000 and started restoration of it in 2002,” says La Madrid.

The S.S. now resides next to her sister ship, the Sicamous, next to the Penticton Rose Garden on Lakeshore Drive.
