Bulky Item Pick Up

The annual curbside bulky item pickup starts next week in the Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen.

For three weeks, residents of the RDOS can place two pieces of furniture or appliances on their curb at 7 am on their designated day and they will be removed.

Items must weigh less than 200 lbs and no electronics will be accepted.

From April 23 to 28, trucks will be picking up items from Penticton, Naramata, Kaleden, West Bench and Carmi.

From April 30 to May 5, items from Oliver, Rural Oliver, the Cawston area and Green Mountain Road near Apex will be collected.

From May 7 to May 12 residents from Hedley to Keremeos, Olalla to Okanagan Falls and Vaseux Lake can put their bulky items on the curb.

RDOS Chair, Dan Ashton, says residents who miss their pickup date have another option for getting rid of unwanted items.

“We have joined forces with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan to sponsor a new website. Items to be given away or sold for a nominal fee can be listed here for free,” says Ashton.

He says reusing is a more environmentally sound option.

“Reusing is better for the environment because it requires less energy to reuse an item rather than recycle it,” says Ashton.

The new website address is www.OkanaganReuses.com.
