Penticton resident offering free service to seniors during crisis

Local offers to help seniors

Lori Capozzi just wants to do her part during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Penticton resident has started a Facebook group geared toward helping people function during self-isolation.

“I’m just trying to assist people who are older and can’t get out, whether they're afraid to get out or they’re immuno-compromised and afraid to go out,” said Capozzi. “I don’t want anything for it.”

Capozzi is a foster parent, and works in a group home with special needs kids. She has had a criminal record check completed through the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

“Just pay for your groceries and I’m willing to help,” added Capozzi. “I’ll drive them to the grocery store and I’ll shop with them. If somebody is afraid to leave the house and won’t go out, I’ll go do it for you. If you don’t have a car, and you want to come with me, that's fine.

“If they have an appointment, such as a doctor’s appointment, I’ll get them there.”

Capozzi was asked why she is putting herself on the front lines to help people during the coronavirus crisis.

“To give back. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’ve just always been that type of person. That’s just who I am,” she said. “I’ve signed up to be a kidney donor. I want to give a kidney to someone. Why do it? Because I can.”

Capozzi will travel from Summerland to Kaleden, and all points in between.

“I’m not looking to benefit at all,” summarized Cappozi. ”Just give me a call and let me know what you need. And, when I’m available, I’ll do it.”

She can be reached at 604-720-7082.
