Monia Mazigh Speaks

Students in Penticton will have an unique chance this week.

Monia Mazigh, the wife of Maher Arar, will speak to Pen-Hi students about her experiences trying to release her husband from a Syrian jail in 2002.

Arar was carrying a Canadian passport when he was stopped by U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service officials in New York as he was travelling to Montreal from Tunis.

He was forcibly taken to Syria where he was held in solitary confinement and tortured for almost a year before being returned to Canada.

Mazigh will speak May 3 from 11:20 a.m. until 1 p.m.
