The work may have been delayed, but it shouldn’t affect the opening date for the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
Mayor Jake Kimberley says the delays have been caused by questions about the site’s design, but he has been assured they won’t prevent the SOEC from opening in the fall of 2008.
Site manager for Giffels Partnership Solutions, Grant Rae, says it took longer than expected to co-ordinate design between the structural steel for the building and pouring the concrete foundation.
He says the concrete will be poured mid-May instead of late April.
Rae says the delay will not have any effect on the construction budget.
Steel structural beams are expected to arrive by early July and the building should be taking form by Christmas.
