Summerland to host Christmas Hallmark movie

Xmas in July for film shoot

Summerland's downtown will look unseasonably festive for a few days next week while a Hallmark movie shoot transforms parts of Main Street and other locations into a Christmas wonderland.

District chief administrative officer Anthony Haddad told council Monday that the crews will be at various public and private locations around Summerland for a few weeks. Shooting will take place on Main Street, Victoria Street, the KVR train station and more.

Crews are expected to bring a large Christmas tree, and fully deck out downtown with decorations.

"We look forward to more of this happening in the next little while," Haddad said, noting a sharp uptick in interest in shooting films in the South Okanagan recently.

Coun. Doug Holmes said he heard at a recent Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen that the pandemic has spurred that interest, hearing from filmmakers that they feel more safe north of the border compared to the United States right now.

Watch for the Christmas in July sets to pop up starting July 27.
