BC Wildfire crews battling new wildfire east of Okanagan Falls

New wildfire 'out of control'

A small wildfire that sparked late Thursday evening near Okanagan Falls is currently classified as "out of control."

Kamloops Fire Centre information officer Gagan Lidhran said a 20-person crew is on site battling the blaze, dubbed the Solco Creek fire.

Its size was initially listed at 1.5 hectares, and Lidhran said crews are still assessing the fire and have not yet been able to provide an updated estimate Friday.

The fire is not currently threatening any structures, and was attacked with flame retardants overnight. Lidhran said a helicopter is standing by to begin dumping water should it be needed.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
