Elderly man offering kids candy not deemed dangerous by Penticton RCMP

Kid-lurer not dangerous

An elderly man who offered children candy at a Penticton property Wednesday, causing alarm amongst residents, has been identified and spoken to by RCMP.

According to a letter sent by the South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society to its 44 units at their Columbus Park property on South Main Street, an "older man" was seen by staff members speaking to four children under eight years of age around 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 12.

RCMP confirm they spoke to the man Thursday.

"Although the actions of the man were suspicious and concerning, after a thorough investigation, officers are confident the man doesn’t pose any threat of harm to any child," said RCMP Cst. James Grandy.

"He was encouraged to no longer offer children candy."
