Naramata is hosting a light up competition where participants can vote by donating to the hamper program

Village light up for charity

Naramata and the Naramata Bench are lighting up for the holidays, decking out their houses and businesses with holiday cheer. And this light up competition is not only to invite people to enjoy the lights of the area, but helps the Naramata Hamper Program too.

Twenty residences and seven businesses have entered into the competition so far, hoping to take home the prize baskets put together by Discover Naramata.

The community is inviting onlookers to come by and vote for the best display in two categories: Best lit residence and best lit business.

Everyone who votes will also be entered into a draw to win a third prize basket valued at around $160.

The competition runs from Dec. 3 to Dec. 17 and participants can choose from two ways to vote before the 17th, both asking for donations to help the Naramata Christmas Hamper program.

Those who are in Naramata during school hours can take a donation for the program to the school where there will be a marked box either at the top of the main car park stairs, or just inside the main doors.

Donations should be left with a piece of paper taped to the donation with the participants information, including name and contact information, and the address of your favourite house and the name of your favourite business.

If voters cannot make it to the school and would like to vote or make a donation, they’re asked to visit the Naramata Church website where there is a donation page for the Hamper Program. Light up is asking for a minimum donation of $10 and participants to write their two votes in the message box along with name and contact information.

A map of the entries throughout the area is available on the My Naramata website.

Votes will be tallied on Dec. 18 and the winners of the three prizes will be announced that day.
