RDOS launching official volunteering program

Call out for volunteers

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen will be launching a new volunteer program, fittingly on International Volunteer Day.

On Dec. 5, the RDOS will formally launch its program, aiming to make volunteering easier and more accessible.

“Volunteerism and a strong sense of community go hand-in-hand, especially in smaller communities,” said RDOS board chair Karla Kozakevich.

“The RDOS has been fortunate to have such a diverse and passionate volunteer base for many years.”

They offer a variety of inclusive volunteer opportunities within areas such as parks and recreation, emergency management and committees.

Volunteering allows community members to connect while sharing skills, supporting others and having fun.

"In addition to contributing time and expertise, there are many other benefits including gaining valuable work experience, expanding your social networks and staying physically and mentally active," reads a news release from the district. "Volunteerism also promotes a sense of belonging and even increases happiness levels."

Watch their new video on volunteerism, or contact the RDOS directly for more information on how to get involved.
