Woman expected to recover after being shot by police near Keremeos during attempted arrest

Shot at arrest, recovering

The woman who was shot by RCMP last week during an attempted arrest turned violent in Keremeos is expected to survive, according to the B.C. police watchdog organization investigating the case.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC took over the case after RCMP attempted to arrest a man and a woman in the 4100 block of Highway 3 near the village on Sept. 13.

Police said the pair were wanted on outstanding warrants. While attempting the arrest in the early morning hours, the man allegedly produced a weapon and was shot by police. He died at the scene.

The woman with him was also shot and transported to the hospital.

The IIO told Castanet that the woman is expected to survive and there were no further updates available to provide at this time.

Neighbours told Castanet the couple had lived in the area approximately a year.
