Coyotes play on frozen lake

A few coyotes have become frequent visitors at the north end of Osoyoos Lake.

Local resident Dale Griffith said he has seen them for the past three weeks out front of The Cottages on Osoyoos Lake.

"They’ve been hanging out at the point in front of our development. Neighbours are concerned with small dogs but we enjoy watching them," he said over messenger.

Griffith managed to catch the coyotes in action on video Wednesday, roughhousing with each other.

With the breeding season underway across the Okanagan, WildSafeBC said that there would be more sightings.

“They’re on the move. They’re looking for mates. They will yip and howl to communicate with each other, “ Kathy Murray, WildSafeBC provincial support officer told Castanet on this week.

Residents are asked to be extra cautious when out for a walk, especially with their pets.

“Being aware of your surroundings, making noise, travelling during daylight, carry a stick or bear spray. Keep your pets under control. Either under vocal control or ideally on a leash. Don’t let them chase wildlife.”
