Summerland crews douse attic fire spreading to roof in Trout Creek

Crews tackle attic fire

Fire crews extinguished a small fire in the attic of a home in Trout Creek along Fir Avenue on Wednesday evening.

Fire Chief Rob Robinson said his team was called out to the structure fire around 6:35 p.m.

"We arrived to flames coming from the rear roof area of the home. The fire got into the attic and spread throughout the roof area which made it difficult to extinguish," he said over email.

"Our firefighters did an awesome job of extinguishing the stubborn attic fire. We had two engines, a ladder truck and a rescue truck on scene with approximately 16 firefighters."

Firefighters spent approximately four and a half hours extinguishing the fire and checking for hot spots.

A two-person crew stayed behind in a fire truck overnight to ensure there was no reignition from the fire.

Robinson said all occupants and their pet dog got out safely with no injuries.

At this time the fire is not suspicious and is still under investigation.
