RDOS yard waste collection dates

Yard Waste Collection occurs in Okanagan Falls, Twin Lakes, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Electoral Areas ‘A,’ ‘B,' ‘C,’ and ‘G,’ the week of November 16 to 20.

Homes in Penticton, Naramata, Kaleden, West Bench, Heritage Hills and Carmi will receive pickups the week of November 23 to 27.

Residents are asked to place bags and bundles out by 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day.

Residents should place their yard waste in clear sturdy bags and bundle branches with twine or string.

Bags and bundles should weigh a maximum of 23 kg/50 pounds. Branches or stumps larger than 7.5 cm/3 inches and 1 m/3 feet in length cannot be picked up as they may damage compression equipment in the garbage trucks.

Lumber and food waste also cannot be collected. Home owners can dispose up to 500 kg/1100 pounds per load of yard waste, clean lumber and large branches at any landfill free of charge.

All RDOS Landfills can take 500 kg of yard waste free of charge year round.

This will be the last curbside yard and garden waste collection in 2009.
Backyard compost bins are still available for sale at the Campbell Mountain, Summerland, Oliver and Keremeos landfills.
