Hwy 97 delays down to a minimum

Good news for motorists travelling along Highway 97 between Penticton and Kelowna.

Traffic delays due to construction on the highway north of Summerland are down to a bare minimum.

Twenty minute delays through the construction zone ended a few weeks ago, according to Arthon Construction spokesperson Jacqui Lloyd.

"We are not doing 20 minutes anymore. The last time we did that was when we were hanging the mesh with the helicopter," says Lloyd.

"We are pretty much done any of the activities that would require 20 minute delays."

Lloyd says motorists can expect only minor delays in order to allow trucks on and off the highway.

She says most of the work is being done on the rock slip area in the southbound lanes.

"Some work on drainage is also on-going."

Sporadic delays will be in place until crews shut down for the winter. The exact date is weather dependent.

Construction will resume again in the spring.

Lloyd says the four laning project is on time and is expected to be concluded before June, 2010.
