Hwy 97A reopened

UPDATE: 9:50 p.m.

Highway 97A is now open in both directions 10 kilometres south of Sicamous, Drive BC reports. 

"Expect delays due to congestion," it says.

The cause is still unclear, as RCMP did not return calls.


UPDATE: 5:05 a.m.

DriveBC says Highway 97A is estimated to reopen at about 7 p.m.


UPDATE: 3:55 p.m.

Highway 97A is now closed in both directions.

DriveBC says a "recovery" is in progress.

Northbound traffic is detouring via Highway 97B, except for local traffic. Southbound traffic is detouring via Highway 1 to the Highway 97B junction with Salmon Arm, then following Highway 97B to Highway 97A.

Highway 97A is bottlenecked south of Sicamous.

DriveBC says a motor vehicle incident 10 kilometres south of the Shuswap town has reduced the highway to single-lane alternating traffic.

There's no estimate yet for reopening.
